Recovery Mode in Xiaomi Phones – Manual Method (Hardware)
Charge you phone up to a minimum of 50% before booting into recovery mode. This will help avoiding shutting down mid-process.
- Power off the phone first by long pressing the power button and selecting power off option.
- When the device is powered off press and hold Power + Volume Up together.
- Keep holding until the Mi logo pops up on screen. Release only the Power button and continue holding the Volume Up button. (Xiaomi Phones may require you to press and hold only the Volume Up button in powered off state to access recovery mode)
- By following these steps mentioned above, you will now be able to access the MI recovery menu. This screen will show a few options like Reboot, Wipe Data, and Connect with MIAssistant.

Recovery Mode in Xiaomi Phones – ADB Method
If the hardware button method doesn’t work or your screen becomes unresponsive for whatever reason. In that case, ADB method can be used to access Recovery mode in Xiaomi Phones.
- First step is to enable USB Debugging by going to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options.
(If Developer Options isn’t showing up, you will have to unlock it by tapping on MIUI/HyperOS version several times in About Phone.) - Download and extract the Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC from the link here.
- Connect the Xiaomi device via USB cable, open up a command prompt in that platform-tools folder by typing cmd in the address bar of this folder.
- Type the command adb devices and press Enter to confirm that device is detected and connected.
- After the device shows up, type adb reboot recovery and hit Enter.
- Phone will now restart and boot into recovery automatically.
Navigating the menu in Recovery Mode in Xiaomi Phones
The Recovery menu of Xiaomi phones is simple and plain, usually showing options in English or Chinese, depending upon your region. Use Volume keys to scroll and power button to confirm. Useful options include Wipe Data, Wipe Cache, Install Update, and Connect with MIAssistant.

How to Leave Recovery Mode

If your phone gets stuck on the Mi logo, just hold the power button down for about 10 seconds and it’ll force a restart.
