In this tutorial we will provide you a step by step guide on how you can back up data on android device.

Google Cloud Backup

  • Backing up your data to Google Cloud allows you to keep your apps, contacts, messages and devices preferences safe in the event of data wipe.
  • To do that, you have to connect your android device to a stable wifi connection and also plug your device into a charger.
  • Go to Settings and then go to Google or depending upon your device, it could be Settings > System > Backup.
  • Go to Backup Details to ensure all the required items are included in the backup process. If not, turn the toggle on for each of the items you want to back up,
  • Go back to the main Backup screen and tap on Backup Now. Your devices will now perform a complete backup and everything will be saved in the Google Cloud storage.

Photos and Videos Backup

  • Backup sometimes compresses that size of the pictures and videos, thus, reducing the resolution of your media files.
  • To ensure you get full resolution restoration of your media files, go to Google Photos app and open your Profile on top right corner.
  • Go to Photo Settings > Backup > Backup Quality.
  • Select the Original Quality as the backup settings, this will ensure you get the exact same quality upon restoration.
  • You will also find Backup Device Folders in the backup settings as well. This allows you to backup any of the other media folders such as Instagram reels, Whatsapp photos or videos.

Create Backup on Your PC

  • To backup data on android device, you need storage and Google Cloud storage can sometimes be not enough. If you have huge number of media files then it is recommended to create a separate backup folder on your computer as well.
  • For that, connect your android device to your PC with the help of USB cable.
  • For your computer to detect your android device you will have to unlock your phone and change the settings to File Transfer from on-screen notification.
  • Sometimes the PC doesn’t detect the android device at all. For that you have to enable USB Debugging from the Settings.
  • Once your android device is detected by your PC, open your device’s folder and DCIM folder, Document folder and Download folder from your android device to your PC.
  • If you are using a Mac then you have to first download Android File Transfer.
  • Connect your phone to Mac using USB cable and follow all the steps mentioned above.
